Ahmad Ismail suspended and stripped of his posts for three years
KUALA LUMPUR: Umno has suspended its Bukit Bendera division chief Datuk Ahmad Ismail of his membership rights and stripped him of his posts for three years for making remarks which were deemed offensive by the Chinese community.
The decision was made at a specially convened supreme council meeting yesterday.
To be precise, the exact headline screaming out from The Star, like this is the highlight of the year, was “SUSPENDED!!!“.
My immediate reaction? “What The Heck!!! Is that all !!??“. Is this all our great and wonderful leaders, who claim to know and hear the grievances of the rakyat, could conjure up their courage to come up with !? And that is after some special supreme council meeting!? Some say, this is like a mere slap to the wrist……but me thinks it’s more like a peck on the cheek.
But who are we mere mortals to be demanding for more blood…..after all, the so-called representatives of other races in this coalition, namely MCA and Gerakan, were more than willing to let bygones be bygones and hailed the decision as satisfactory……(gosh, no wonder the “running dog” tag…)
MCA president Datuk Seri Ong Ka Ting
“Today, Umno’s decision against Ahmad shows Umno has drawn a clear line on the racist remarks, which has hurt the feelings of the Chinese community,” he said.
MCA secretary-general Datuk Seri Ong Ka Chuan
“The solution showed that such sensitive issues could only be solved through the Barisan spirit and mechanism”
Gerakan acting president Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon
Saw the move as “a step in the right direction”.
If I remember correctly, one of their members, Zarin Yassin, who blogged as Sang Kelembai, was sacked in 2006 for his critical views on the rot taking place in UMNO then (and certainly still rotting)………of course, he later crawled back when the president decided to forgive him. Doesn’t this tell us something about our beloved leaders and their stand on the multi-racial sensitivities of this nation, who would find criticism of one’s own party to be sufficient justification for sacking, but not when issuing threats and insults to non-UMNO members?
By coming up with this “suspension” judgement, Badawi has inevitably spared the rod….and what happens when the rod is spared? The child becomes a SPOILT BRAT lor!!!
“In politics there are leaders and fighters. As a fighter, there are sacrifices and risks. If you are afraid of the ocean waves, don’t build your house on the beach.
“Being struck by waves is normal but this time it was a tsunami (that hit me).
“But I have a long time, three years, to build a stronger house. I will build it on the same site. I will stay on with Umno, my party,” he said, drawing applause from his supporters who accompanied him.
“If the division is smart enough to create a new post, like an adviser, I can become an adviser.
“It does not end there and I can even become executive secretary,” said Ahmad.
There are also some folks who came up with a conspiracy theory about this, after all, the timing to embarrass Badawi and his government couldn’t have been more perfect. But regardless of whatever the reason was, the main issue here is how willing our leaders are at allowing their own people (or rather the warlords of UMNO) get away with everything thing under the sun, as long as they are promised support and votes in party elections. Hence, have those said leaders become mere puppets of the division heads aka Warlords?
On the side, I’m wondering whether anyone is going to demand for some disciplinary action against this person…….
