Sarah Palin’s gaffe on CBS interview

Posted by jingoisticbuthornydesperado on October 1, 2008

Sarah Palin is unbelievable, she is ignorant about economics and foreign policy. The interview with Katie Couric was just very awful. I do agree the bipartisan commentator Fareed Zakaria and conservative columnist Kathleen Parker that if one ignores the verbiage in the interview, the content from Sarah Palin is gibberish. She contradicts herself, merely echoing the line of John McCain without really understanding the implication of the echo. Katie Couric even has evidence on Kissinger statement on talking without preconditions. The content of her interview in foreign policy and economics can be viewed here.

John McCain in my opinion is really irresponsible to choose Palin as his running-mate. He is just using her to shore up support from far-right conservatives, which is a completely selfish decision as it does not benefit the country to have an ignorant vice-president. I have my suspicion already that Palin is just a convenient toy for McCain to be used. With this interview my suspicion has been confirmed. At least, there is one thing that I do agree with John McCain, the credit crunch and the turmoil of the financial system is the root cause of economic turmoil (rather than sky high price of oil), which is needed to be tackled immediately. Bush at least, once in a blue moon, did the right thing to ask the congress to allow for the $700 billion bail out. Unfortunately both Bush and John McCain fail to rally the Republicans to vote for the bail out. Which brings to me another question in mind, can John McCain really shore up support from his own Republicans?

Anyway, SNL has two really funny sketches on Sarah Palin (played by brilliant Tina Fey). That can be viewed here

SNL – Couric/Palin

SNL – Palin/Clinton

Damn….I never thought that I’d say this….BUT….Sarah Palin actually makes George W look intelligent! ๐Ÿ˜€

The only reason that Palin was chosen as a VP candidate is bcoz she was a woman….PERIOD!!! McCain needed to get those erstwhile Clinton supporters on his side….

here’s another couric interview… this one is both the presidential and VP candidates. i found it too funny: mccain defending his VP as a dad would his daughter if she did something wrong ๐Ÿ˜‰

Thanks Ella-Mae. That one is funny too. Gezz, now they think the media is at fault. We can’t question her credibility, if we question, and she can’t answer, we are demons. if we question and she can answer, we are angels.

of all the women McCain he could have chosen like Condolezza Rice, he chooses palin…… If he has chosen Rice, i might have thought more highly of McCain and Rice leading the Republicans. I do like Rice.

All the Nudes That’s Fit to Print,0,4944201.story

A bar in Barack Obama’s hometown is displaying a painting of a naked Sarah Palin, the Chicago Tribune reports. Bruce Elliott hung his painting behind the bar at the Old Town Ale House, which his wife owns:

“I’ve been following her religiously,” he said Monday at the bar. “I had never heard of her before, like everyone else. I find her bizarrely fascinating, even though I pretty much despise everything she stands for.”

Despite their political differences, Elliott admits to a bit of a crush on the Alaska governor. He began painting her smile and trademark glasses, he said, before filling in the details: a gun, red high heels, polar bear rug, rugged Alaska landscape and a scared moose. His daughter, who looks a little like Palin and does a great impression of her, served as model for the governor’s body.

His daughter modeled for a nude painting? Presumably she’s an adult, but that seems rather creepy all the same.

Also, how come it’s OK to paint Palin in the nude, but an actual photo of Barack Obama in Kenyan garb was considered invidious?,CST-NWS-sweet26.article

BTW, I don’t believe in O’Bummer long before Palin came into the picture.

And Biden is, incidentally, an established Lord of the Gaffes whose sneers and smirks are famous. Hahaha!

I’m really looking fwd to the VP debate on Friday morning at 9 ๐Ÿ˜€

Btw, I dont think it’s ok to paint the nude of Sarah Palin and then display it so prominently. It’s down right sexist!!!! Why can’t they paint a nude of McCain instead? ๐Ÿ˜‰

  9. wits0 said

That one gaffe by her with sour face Couric does not detract from the fact that she has made many other good speeches. Like the one e.g., with Maria Bartimolo of CNN which is getting harder to find in Liberal sources including perhaps Youtube, as well.

As for the running VP debate, I think Saracudda will eat Biden! ๐Ÿ˜‰
A bibi isn’t up to the job.

  12. jingoisticbuthornydesperado said

so it is okay to potray obama as a closeted muslim by McCain’s campaign? Obama didn’t endorse the nude picture anyway. just because at my hometown, gomen uses ISA doesn’t mean i support it right?

Anyway, i am talking about the credentials of politicians here. she may be a good gorvernor but VP is out of her league of capability.

This is not the only gaffe, this is one of her most important gaffe. She has the charisma and the ability to use verbiage, that’s all, otherwise there is not much. Even conservative (non-liberal) support McCain begin to lambast her VP choice. every body commits gaffe inevitably but important things like foreign policy and economics is no excuse. they are very important to the implications to the world. she has no show no understanding whatsoever on these issues. nothing. agffe like sneezing in the middle of the interview or anything like that, i can forgive, but this?

  13. wits0 said

Well, before I go any further, consider that Obama apparently claimed to be baptised into Christianity(under a weird Black church) at age 27 when he married Michelle. In the muslim world, if your father is a muslim, you’re automatically one as well, although aren’t a practising one.

So please explain why he was allowed to be an apostate at adulthood without any sign of recrimination from his bethrens whatsover? According to his half brother in Kenya, the world family has always been muslims. Ask also his half sister, Maya, in Indonesia.

What is true is hardly a smear.

  14. jingoisticbuthornydesperado said

That is truely pedantic. You have skeptism about Islam pragmatism yet you seem to be happy that he should be confined to the strict Islamic law be applied strictly to Obama when it comes to apostasy. What do you think about Lina Joy? She is on the right or wrong? What about RPK’s Islamic reeducation in Kamunting? Don’t you think there should be fair judgement to to everyone? He is not in the Muslim world he is in America… there is such thing as freedom of religion.

Let’s not deviate the topic to Obama bashing. We are talking about Sarah Palin’s credentials here. If she has the credentials, it would be very easy to defend her without deviating from the actual topic by launching a scathing counter-attack, yet without answering the question….

  15. wits0 said

Good that you’ve bought out Lina Joy.

Seems that if you’re nobody you cannot apostate without recrimination but if you’re Obama, serving a greater (covert)cause, you may do so.

There’s nothing pedantic in what is expressive of fundamental hypocrisy. Also in this case, it’s clearly not an otherwise simple matter of religion – as with any other religions not rigidly tied to an ideology that seeks(unrelentingly) to intrude into all aspects of ones life by default.

  16. jingoisticbuthornydesperado said

hipocrisy over what? religious tolerance or intolerance? How is his supposed apostasy going to affect his public policies? it is still ambiguous. Be more specific not rhetoric. you are afraid he is a closeted muslim who goes around launching a new jihad when he is president? That seems like what you are trying to potray since it is so ambiguous.

anyway, as I say again, we are still talking about Sarah Palin not Obama. I have yet to see her economic (even locally, america) and foreign credentials.

    Biden’s 14 Lies

    Fresh from the McCain people.

    1. TAX VOTE: Biden said McCain voted โ€œthe exact same wayโ€ as Obama to increase taxes on Americans earning just $42,000, but McCain DID NOT VOTE THAT WAY.

    2. AHMEDINIJAD MEETING: Joe Biden lied when he said that Barack Obama never said that he would sit down unconditionally with Mahmoud Ahmedinijad of Iran. Barack Obama did say specifically, and Joe Biden attacked him for it.

    3. OFFSHORE OIL DRILLING: Biden said, โ€œDrill we must.โ€ But Biden has opposed offshore drilling and even compared offshore drilling to โ€œrapingโ€ the Outer Continental Shelf.โ€

    4. TROOP FUNDING: Joe Biden lied when he indicated that John McCain and Barack Obama voted the same way against funding the troops in the field. John McCain opposed a bill that included a timeline, that the President of the United States had already said he would veto regardless of itโ€™s passage.

    5. OPPOSING CLEAN COAL: Biden says heโ€™s always been for clean coal, but he just told a voter that he is against clean coal and any new coal plants in America and has a record of voting against clean coal and coal in the U.S. Senate.

    6. ALERNATIVE ENERGY VOTES: According to, Biden is exaggerating and overstating John McCainโ€™s record voting for alternative energy when he says he voted against it 23 times.

    7. HEALTH INSURANCE: Biden falsely said McCain will raise taxes on people’s health insurance coverage — they get a tax credit to offset any tax hike. Independent fact checkers have confirmed this attack is false

    8. OIL TAXES: Biden falsely said Palin supported a windfall profits tax in Alaska — she reformed the state tax and revenue system, it’s not a windfall profits tax.

    9. AFGHANISTAN / GEN. MCKIERNAN COMMENTS: Biden said that top military commander in Iraq said the principles of the surge could not be applied to Afghanistan, but the commander of NATO’s International Security Assistance Force Gen. David D. McKiernan said that there were principles of the surge strategy, including working with tribes, that could be applied in Afghanistan.

    10. REGULATION: Biden falsely said McCain weakened regulation — he actually called for more regulation on Fannie and Freddie.

    11. IRAQ: When Joe Biden lied when he said that John McCain was โ€œdead wrong on Iraqโ€, because Joe Biden shared the same vote to authorize the war and differed on the surge strategy where they John McCain has been proven right.

    12. TAX INCREASES: Biden said Americans earning less than $250,000 wouldnโ€™t see higher taxes, but the Obama-Biden tax plan would raise taxes on individuals making $200,000 or more.

    13. BAILOUT: Biden said the economic rescue legislation matches the four principles that Obama laid out, but in reality it doesnโ€™t meet two of the four principles that Obama outlined on Sept. 19, which were that it include an emergency economic stimulus package, and that it be part of โ€œpart of a globally coordinated effort with our partners in the G-20.โ€

    14. REAGAN TAX RATES: Biden is wrong in saying that under Obama, Americans won’t pay any more in taxes then they did under Reagan.

your arguments are superficial wits0, taking at face value, taking many things grossly out of context, I don’t even know where to start. please read a special Economist report on Obama and McCain before jumping into conclusions. It is 21 pages in report. If you want to know something in depth, 21 pages report shouldn’t be too daunting for you to read.

  19. Abracadabra said

please do not deviate from the actual topic of discussion. we are talking about Palin’s credentials….. I would like to see maybe 14 factual accuracies by Palin?

  20. Madame said

I have always thought that the VP candidate was quite inconsquential in the scheme of things….but Dick Cheney, sure abused me of that notion ๐Ÿ˜‰ Also, more importantly, McCain is a 72yr old man so the question is, if smthg should happen to McCain can Sarah Palin step into his shoes and govern the US competently? Could you answer this, pls?

For me, today’s debate just under scored the FACT that Palin is not ready by a long shot!!!

On substance, Palin was definitely lacking….on intelligence, she was surely lacking as well ๐Ÿ˜€ I didnt appreciate the small little digs that she kept taking at Biden. Biden, on the other hand, was a complete gentleman….he did not make any digs at her personally but focused on McCain n Bush. Kudos to this man!

Btw, did u notice that Palin got McCain’s voting record wrong a couple of times and had to be corrected? She also got the name of the commanding US general in Afghanistan wrong ๐Ÿ˜€ She also seems to hv deviated on her original stance on gay rights issues ๐Ÿ˜€ Ahhhh…well, tmrw the Republican spi-meisters will come up will another vaccous excuse for this ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€

  21. jingoisticbuthornydesperado said

For me, I don’t mind if Palin got the name of US general wrong, it doesn’t affect the world (and in my opinion, it will be a bit too picky on poor Palin). What matters are her policies….

She is someone who can’t even name what news resource she relies on which says a lot about her grasp of the world. Her general knowledge is appalling!

What sickens me is that McCain and Palin have the tendencies to denigrate characters more than talking about policies. Policies are what affect us! And it sounds all to familiar to me, if people can’t get their facts right they excessively use verbiage to bamboozle us.

  22. Madame said

Just read ur posted comment on the 14 lies of Biden. Are we talking about the same debate here??? It is so not true! I watched it and ur source got it completely wrong! Alot of the words that Biden used/did not use have been carefully ‘edited’ out ๐Ÿ˜‰ You need to get a more bi-partisan source…

  23. wits0 said

    Woo hooo…what a howling in protest..hahaha!

I’m particularly intrigue by Biden being absolutely sure that global warming is all man made!

  24. jingoisticbuthornydesperado said

wits0, for once could you actually answer the questions properly rather than dodging what you can’t answer. i am still waiting for your reply on obama’s apostasy…..

  25. Anand said

Haven’t had the chance to watch the interview with Couric (internet connection on a rig can be temperamental), but just caught the debate on CNN.

Taking it strictly as a debate, it wasn’t a contest at all – only one of them bothered to actually answer the questions (as opposed to regurgitating talking points), drawing on a broad range of facts and references, attacking his opponent only in ways relevant to the subject at hand.

But that’s not how this debate will be judged. At least not in the united st*p*d of america.

Palin’s tactic of not even pretending to answer the questions, plus her sometimes spectacular ejaculations of populist folksiness was rather clever. She obviously tried to cram all her talking points into her limited air time, never mind the relevance. I think there was one time when she managed to say the word “maverick” three times in like two seconds which I suppose in itself is maverick.

Biden, commanding and authoritative as one would expect from someone of his experience, did good. He could have so easily come off as condescending, chauvinistic, bullying etc, but managed to be amply respectful. By any objective standard, he was the far superior debater, and, crucially, kept the critical focus on McCain.

memorable moment: Palin says tax breaks won’t cost government money (yes, she really did say that!). Biden replies by hammering McCain’s healthcare funding proposals, under which, Biden says, 20m people would lose their coverage. “I call that the ultimate Bridge to Nowhere,” he says, and looks across at Palin. The audience โ€” instructed to keep quiet โ€” laughs loudly. Zinger!

  26. jingoisticbuthornydesperado said

Wow, anand, didn’t know you follow American politics so closely, lol.

  27. missjolie said

Well whatever it is Wits0 ….it’s your word against his…be it 14 lies or 14 fibs….the point here is if those were lies, why didn’t Sarah Palin step up to defend the lies, then and there during the debate when she had the chance? Was it because she was clueless? Was it because what Biden said was true?! Take a pick! ๐Ÿ˜€

Biden chewed her up to bits! Palin was debating verbatim style in my opinion. And she had to defend her title as governer of Alaska more than once? Obviously trying to cover up for her lack of knowledge in ‘other’ areas!

Although you cannot deny that she scores points on looks! It’s actually quite a nice distraction to what she had to say! ๐Ÿ˜€

  28. ihateidiots said

    Hahahhahahhaha….good one, MissJolie!

  31. wits0 said

Hahaha! I haven’t read that Obama was/is estatic yet.

For those of you who still wondered who won the debate last night…

Watch how the two presidential candidates reacted–
John McCain and the Republicans are ecstatic..
Barack Obama, on the other hand, HAD TO READ his talking points on Biden’s debate performance:

Was Obama a muslim, go see for yourself.
If he was and is no longer, he apostated.
In his own words he denied he was ever one(a muslim).
    This denial is well known.

And what sort of personality has Obama?
    He has NPD(Narcissistic Personality Disorder)

  32. Madame said

You honestly cant be that delusional ๐Ÿ˜‰ The Republicans were ecstatic bcoz they had zero expectations of Palin, all they could really hope for was that she didnt commit too many blunders….which she didnt. They were scared that she would goof up badly as she did with Coruic. That’s the reason for the euphoria in the McCain camp.

You seem like an intelligent person…watch the debates and you tell me which of them was more intelligent and knew the subject matter and even responded to the questions. Yep….listen to her, dont just look at her! ๐Ÿ˜€ I believe on all the polls that were taken post-debate, Biden leads on each n every single one of them ๐Ÿ™‚

  33. Madame said

Another thing, what does Obama’s religion or lack of religion have anything to do with his ability to serve as President? If he is a current Muslim, was one, acknowledges it or denies it…..I really fail to see the relevance here.

Perhaps, you feel that only Christian Zealots like Palin could do a good job???? Strange…..

  34. missjolie said

Oh Wits0 my dear. You have been blinded by the so-called ‘Palin effect’ or ‘Palin euphoria’ , a strategy by the Republicans to shore up support for McCain’s lacklustre appeal…….I must say Palin’s an effective tool for those who rely on ‘visual’ persuasion!

For crying out loud! Don’t you have something more substantial than attacking Obama for being a muslim? That is the lamest reason ANYONE can use to attack his credibility (more so becos they hv nothing better to argue about). What has it got to do with him running the country? In fact if you ask me, his muslim background MIGHT actually be good! The exposure will make him more sensitive for sure! Anytime better to a narrow minded Christian overzealous bigot who renounces abortion but is for WAR which equals to war and killing. It is very ignorant of you to assume that a Christian would be better simply because HE/SHE was Christian (Palin in this case specifically!) I DON’T know if you realise but there are BAD, Vindictive Christians as there are BAD, Vindictive Muslims in this world! Wake up and smell the roses Wits0. the muslim point is getting really lame.

Btw, based on an International poll, someone told me 22 countries were for Obama and only 6 voted for McCain. Says a lot doesn’t it?

  35. missjolie said

oops typo. war equals to killing!

  36. jingoisticbuthornydesperado said

I don’t know if it is worth arguing with Wits0, questions are never answered. Merely a one way communication, Wits0 just want to talk, doesn’t care to listen or to answer, “it is my way or the highway” attitude. He wears islamophobic attitude on his sleeves, he dislikes politicians who have a Muslim past. Eventhough Obama is officially a Christian now, he still doesn’t like Obama just because he has a Muslim father and an Arabic middle name.

He keeps getting detail facts wrong, as the result of reading blogs that only contain gobbledegook! Once okay, twice okay, but almost all the time?

    1) He claims Kyoto Protocol is about Carbon tax when in actual fact Kyoto Protocol is about trading in carbon credits.

    2) He seem to think that economic downturn has got to do with high price of oil, when both Democrats and the Republicans acknowledge that it is due to credit crunch.

    3) He claims that Obama’s lipstick on the pig comment was a reference to palin when it was actually about policies.

    4) McCain is a staunch free market and free trader, objecting to MOST regulations that clamps down on free market. Yes, on a rare occasion, he did in the past try to regulate on freddie and fannie but then he employs a campaign manager, rick davies who received money from freddie mac! Can you explain to me this downright contradiction?

But expecting a rational answers will be too much to ask from you, since from history of our communication, you never answer any of our questions. And you have yet to justify Palin’s credentials up till now. The only thing i am getting is irrational propoganda that is so similar of Malaysia’s english and malay medium MSM. If they can’t counter rational, they will just pile on more gibberish to confound the recalcitrant bourgeois.
